William Suys

Photo 2022 "I believe a successful piece of art – whether it be subjective or abstract, painting or sculpture – creates its own special environment.

You do more than simply view the work, you become personally involved in it. The most successful work can be measured by its ability to compel the viewer into this environment and to touch their emotions in a unique and timeless way. The best work will stay fresh and compelling forever.

The blank canvas gives me absolute freedom to create. I have the same opportunity afforded past artists from Leonardo to Sargent. I plan to take maximum advantage of this opportunity to deliver work that possesses its own artistic heart and soul."

Winner, Best in Show - Salon International at the International Museum of Contemporary Master of Fine Art 2013

Portrait Procedure

Mr. Suys is happy to discuss any commission ideas you may have, and welcomes projects that might help you convey a thought, celebrate an individual, or leave a legacy. The specific steps will be determined by our objectives and practicality (including your schedule) but will generally consist of the following steps:
  • We will set our overall objectives, which will help guide our choices of subject and general appearance, the type of portrait and the setting, format, mood, and colors. This is where we will decide upon a full-length classical look in a subdued setting, or casually sitting for morning coffee.
  • We will determine the best approach and location for developing our idea; whether you wish to sit for multiple sessions, or we shoot a series of photographs in your favorite setting. I will create back and white or color roughs to indicate the finished appearance.
  • You can review the progress of your painting as often as you like. Otherwise, I may ask you to check my progress as I feel necessary to ensure satisfaction. I may also request a short sitting or additional photographs.
  • We will select framing when appropriate.
  • I will present your painting, make any necessary adjustments, and complete the framing
