Biography
1937 Craig Rubadoux is born in Rochester, New York on March 7
1945 While still a child Craig's family moves to Sarasota, Florida.
In Sarasota, he paints landscapes and is inspired by the exotic animals and
performers of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
1954 He wins a one year scholarship to the Ringling School of Art and Design and
apprentices with noted illustrator Ben Stahl.
1964 He travels to Italy and France. He exhibits with Frank Rampolla Univ. of Tampa, FL.
1969 Craig teaches figure drawing at the University of Florida in Gainesville and at
the University of South Florida, Tampa. He travels to Mexico.
1971-72 Craig Teaches at the University of South Florida, Tampa
1972 Craig teaches art at Florida International Univ., Miami, and travels to Europe.
1979 He is invited to participate as a member of the Ossabaw Island Project, Georgia.
1983 Craig discovers Nova Scotia and buys a cottage overlooking the Atlantic
Ocean. He begins to divide time between Nova Scotia and Sarasota.
He has a exhibition at Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Florida with
his son, a photographer.
1986 The Ringling Museum of Art exhibits a twenty year retrospective of his work on paper.
1987-04 He creates paintings the Sarasota Music Festival uses as posters to promote
the Festival.
He exhibits at the Gallery Contemporanea in Jacksonville, Florida.
1988 He is awarded the commission Hillsborough Hammock by the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement in Tampa, Florida.
1989 He exhibits at Houston North Gallery in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia.
He builds a studio next to his cottage at Rose Bay.
1994 Exhibits at the Washington Irving Center, Madrid, Spain
1997 He travelled through Province visiting Avignon , Roussillon, St. Remy, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer, Cassis, and Paris
1999-2000 Visits to Buenos Aires
2000 Craig travels to South America where he falls in love with Argentina's national dance, the Tango.
The colorful personalities and costumes of the dancers in Buenos Aires
inspire a series of paintings demonstrating motion and passion.
2004 He travels to Paris.
