William Jerdon

William Jerdon "I try to connect with humanity. Figurative art speaks to a basic need to connect with others. We find comfort and strength in these links, in sharing commonalities. It is through this process of identification, I believe, that we find a common ground."

William Jerdon is primarily a practicing fine artist, although he has been teaching figurative painting and drawing in both the public and the private sector for more than 36 years. His style follows in the tradition of American Realism, specifically Figurative Realism, with an emphasis on truth to nature and an appreciation for the humanistic qualities of the figure. He works in the romantic spirit of Thomas Wilmer Dewing, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, and William Merritt Chase. His European influences range from Vermeer to Bouguereau to Degas. Working from live models with a classical color palette, he attempts to capture the beauty and singularity of the human form.
