George Paxton
b 1940
I create classically-inspired, figurative sculpture. Believing the creative process must be grounded in the basics. I feel that a good understanding of proportion, gesture, and anatomy is essential and serves as a foundation for artistic expression, granting me the freedom to accentuate, minimize, bend or even eliminate substance within the overall constraints imposed by reality. In this manner, I create sculpture that is not only true to nature, but which also expresses my views and captures the essence, mood and feeling of my subjects. In a word, I would describe my sculpture as sensuous in that it is aimed at the senses and characterized by impressions and imagery. |
